When Newport Heights Elementary School sixth-grader TK McWhertor completes his essay in class he walks it over to teacher Marc Africano for editing. But instead of breaking out the red pen and scribbling all over the page. Africano simply clicks drags and deletes TK’s mistakes. His essay is on his class-issued laptop. They are part of an Intel Corporation pilot program testing how Classmate student laptops could help learning in the classroom. Newport Heights was issued about 70 student laptops two higher-end teacher laptops a server for each class’ system carts training and technical support for the pilot program which ends in February. "The Rise of Personal Computers and the Revolutions That Caused ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-01 21:09:32

With the driving force of two world wars and a massive cold war it became ever more important for countries to spend billions of dollars in development of new technologies that would drive their society both militarily and culturally towards dominance. The most important of these technologies is without a doubt the rise of the computer and its permeation into the personal market. The evolution of computers would never be defined by a single invention but rather an ideal to displace towards a singular goal: the personal computer. Closer examination of the history in the computer’s evolution shows an important trend in which affordable and powerful personal computers were the first go in a digital revolution which would control society both technologically and culturally into the 21st century. It is difficult to accumulate the computer into a single invention that could be analyzed. The computer itself is not a singular technology that was just created overnight but rather a major basis for the electronic and computing system. This system is not separate from human society and culture but would instead penetrate itself into the very fabric of society. Therefore this cover will cerebrate on the introduction of two key inventions which led to the evolution of this computing system. They are the transistor and the microprocessor two study components which define the computer and electronic era. The first step in understanding the evolution of the computer is the chew over of the engineering and technological efforts after the back up World War. With inventions such as radio and radar becoming increasingly more valuable in the defense market governments began to view technology as a vital player in the international marketplace. Government spending in research and development began to increase dramatically as come up as control the private sector into the game. It also showed that scientists would compete a key role in the post-WWII era. One of the main hotbeds for this research was attach Laboratories an offshoot of AT&T and Western Electric Research Laboratories. Immediately after the war then director of investigate at Bell Labs. M. J. Kelley decided to investigate the role of semiconductors elements which in the past had several uses. Semiconductors were common components in crystal radios before the invention of the electron furnish was invented. The main goal of this investigate as was to “gain a deeper understanding of the physics of these substances (semiconductors).” The researchers began to realize the potential in such materials and decided to take another look in a device which could control the move of electrons in solids. This research eventually led to the invention of the transistor by Walter Brattain and John Bardeen. In his article published in Scientific Monthly. Ralph Brown director of investigate the year the transistor was invented stated that when they publicly announced the invention of the transistor they would be quiet on their hopes and dreams and rather just announced what they could certifiably express as facts. In retrospect. cook states that the act of announcing only accomplished tasks that the transistor had performed led to misunderstanding and lack of interest by the news media when reporting on the invention.

"Set up Static IPs on all computers in a network?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-21 19:41:23

I'm not sure what you mean? If the addresses are all the same you will have conflicts between them and your router/modem and your network won't work. And if they aren't static IPs then they have to be dynamic IPs. if you want to assign static IP to some but not all computers on your network limit the DHCP server to pool of certain IP addresses (e g start communicate 192.168.1.101 max connections 20) and appoint only IP addresses outside this share (any IP except the server usually 1 and 101-120) to those computers with static IP Home computers are being called upon to perform many new functions including the consumption of homework formerly eaten by the dog. Maxtor 320 GB.. to name but a few Why would you be to go to all that trouble? Is there some specific reason you be static IP addresses? It's a lot easier to manage the communicate and changing configurations with DHCP. SP2 If that happened something is do by. Do an IPconfig/all and post the prove for a PC that does bring home the bacon and for another that does not work. Also note if you are assigning static IPs that conflict with DHCP IPs previously assigned by your router you will be to define your router. do by and do by. While dedicated servers may want a static IP communicate there is no reason for all the workstations to have them. Download speeds are unaffected by how the workstation obtains the IP address. SP2 If two computers accidentally get the same IP communicate an error message would come up on each computer's check. "If I added all the numbers to the TCP/IP box or whatever and my internet doesn't work what should I do?" - Has this happened? If so sometimes when entering static IP addresses it is beat to use your ISP's actual DNS server addresses rather than the IP address of the router. Very simple... In your router range the IP address for DHCP. In your router you can set the IP address range for DHCP. For example: start - 192.168.1.30 End:192.168.1.250So the IP communicate for those computers using Auto assigned by DHCP will start from 192.168.1.30 to 192.168.1.250. For those computers you be to be using static ip furnish them from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.29. In that way you won't get IP conflict between Static and Dynamic IPs. beat.
